As part of the 800th anniversary celebrations for Limbaži, Kipeni Safe House Foundation was pleased to welcome a delegation from Anklam in Germany, our Hanseatic twin city.
The delegation of 8 people included the Mayors of both Anklam and Limbazi as well as the Burgermeister of Anklam. They were pleased to see the efficient progress made this year.
The Mayor of Anklam, Mr. Michael Galander, applauded the efforts being made to support Ukrainian refugees and underlined how we are all stronger through standing together - and how Europe is standing together against the Russian aggression. He said:
“We as the Hanseatic city of Anklam have made every effort from the very beginning to support all those who are in need and fleeing the war in Ukraine. Since the very moment of the beginning, we have been very involved in fundraising and financial support for the refugees. All of us together, i.e. the city, its residents and institutions such as the Job Center, Caritas, Johanniter, the state, federal government and many others, have been very involved in helping the war refugees.
Currently, up to 250 refugees live in our city. At the peak, there were up to 300. Some of them have returned to their country, others have stayed with us. They work in our hotels and restaurants, others continue their studies, develop their artistic and sporting talents. We are glad that we could give these people a chance to live a normal life in the difficult time they are in. We believe that it is an act of humanity to preserve universal values in difficult times and simply remain a good person - and support those who are in need in the face of war."
